Phishing scams hit Twitter

Posted by David on Jun 14th, 2010

Twitter seems to have become the latest social networking site to be hit by a huge number of phishing scams.

Twitter Phishing Spam Emails

Emails that look very much like the Twitter official notification emails are coming through to us almost daily suggesting we have changed our email address recently and that we should confirm our email address.

A link to confirm that our email address is given that looks like it would go to Twitter.com but if you hover over the link for a second or two you find it is either an ip address or a czech republic website link.

Clicking the link may take you to a phishing scam site or a site selling some dodgy version of viagra or other such drug, but hopefully will be stopped by your vigilant browser phishing scam detector stating that "the site you are visiting has been reported as a phishing site, are you sure you wish to visit it".

Spam emails are an everyday occurrence and seem to be unstoppable, they get more cunning and devious each week, at least it does not take much to hit delete, and although they can be annoying if you treat every email with a little suspicion you should be safe and never get scammed.

Good luck out there.
