Website Designing

On very rare occasions we have clients who ask us to create a functional website that looks good because their last website designer was unable to provide what they wanted, and several months later they are still waiting for that design to be completed.

After meeting the client and running through what they want and the needs of their customers, we go away and put a design together and present it to the client. They then come back and tell us they want it to look exactly like someone elses website. We do not copy other peoples websites and try to come up with a solution. But they still want it to be exactly like the website they have seen and like.

A few months down the line they do not feel that design will fit their image asking us to change it, which turns out to be the design we first suggested.

We now ask them to start testing the functionality of the site, but are held up yet again by a non-designer telling us to put a swirl in here, or a line in there.

Several months down the line after many hold ups from the customer, we are still in the design phase.

I've been in this situation!! There must be some easy way that us designers can make sure we don't get caught in these traps?

I found it so hard to balance keeping the client happy and on your side with also not letting them run the show and milk every minute of your time. I think you know who I mean David, I spoke to you about them by email ;)

Both you and the client have to be happy from the beginning and understand what you are offering and what they are paying for.

If you do not feel you are being paid enough you are going to feel negative towards your client, which does not help business relations.

A cheap client will always remain a cheap client. Never devalue your work, ask for what you know you are worth and perform over and above what you offer.

Good loyal clients are worth their weight in gold.
