Teleporting does exist

Posted by David on Oct 6th, 2009

Yes it may be a revelation to some but a lot of us do it every day without blinking an eye.

Some of us have embraced Teleportation having our work teleported directly to our home office or laptop or internet enabled phone so we can work from anywhere at any time.

It amazes me that we still have to travel to and from dirty smelly city's considering no-one enjoys it and it is definitely good for the environment.

Commuting was something I always told myself I would never do, I don't care about the money it's all about the enjoyment of the job and I have to say I have enjoyed all my jobs and have happily never commuted except for the 1 day a month commute to Cambridge when I worked at Camputers on their Lynx project, but you can't call that a commute as it was fun as it was not in rush hour and involved a night in a 'lovely' hotel or guest house, breakfast included.

Now we are in a position to work from anywhere as we have internet access anywhere, iPhone apps that allow access to files, video and messaging systems to enable us to choose how we work.

I know what is holding us back, it is what has held us back for a long time, middle management, yes those people who separate the workers and those that make decisions and run the 'company', those people who have been placed there to keep people busy no matter what the cost.

Middle management have no idea how to handle these teleportation devices, how is it possible to manage people they cannot see? They tell themselves things like; If people worked from home they won't do any work! They will all sit around in their underwear scratching their collective ass watching TV!

These middle managers have no vision but it is easy to see that we are in the future, the future is now, we have the technology and we can save the world if everyone worked from home.

There of course are those of us that cannot work from home as their jobs requires them to be somewhere else, such as firemen, nurses, doctors, road workers, policemen, builders, and so on but if those of us who could easily work from home, given the chance, then we would allow those that had to commute to do it with less stress and more space, less people and more time.

I don't think things will change anytime soon, but we live in hope. Just seems like the more things change the more they stay the same.
