A Modern SEO And Security Overhaul for DR Adept
Case Study: Practicing What We Preach - A Modern SEO & Security Overhaul for DR Adept
Executive Summary
Like many boutique agencies, our own website frequently took a back seat to client work. Because the majority of our new business originates from word-of-mouth recommendations, maintaining our digital storefront wasn't a primary driver for lead generation.
However, with the arrival of Google's AI Overviews and major search algorithm shifts, we realised it was time to practice what we preach. We used our own platform as a testing ground for a modern, entity-based SEO strategy designed to withstand the future of search.
The results after six months proved that traditional, vanity-metric SEO is evolving, and that a leaner, highly targeted approach yields far higher data integrity and real-world value.
The Challenge
Our website suffered from a problem common to long-standing digital agencies: content drift and data noise.
- The Content Problem: The site hosted historical informational content ("how-to" and "what-is" articles). In the age of AI Overviews, this content was increasingly vulnerable to being scraped by AI to answer user queries directly on the search engine results page (SERP), driving zero actual clicks back to our site.
- The Positioning Problem: Our core service pages lacked absolute clarity regarding our dual expertise in both Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) markets.
- The Data Noise Problem: Our Google Search Console and Analytics data were heavily polluted by automated scrapers, rank-trackers, and general bot traffic, masking our true human audience.
Strategy & Execution (Phase 1)
We initiated a major structural and content overhaul focused on intent-matching, user validation, and modern search standards.
1. Hard Content Pruning
We ruthlessly removed all purely informational "how-to" and "what-is" blog posts. We shifted our content strategy exclusively to deep-dive client case studies. If we aren't looking to teach competitors how to do our jobs, our content should exist solely to prove our real-world problem-solving capabilities to prospective clients.
2. Positioning & Metadata Alignment
We re-engineered our core landing pages to explicitly state our capabilities across both B2B and B2C frameworks. Alongside this, we rewrote all metadata across the site to optimise the explicit user intent rather than broad keywords.
3. Monitoring the "Data Dip"
Immediately following the changes, broad impressions declined sharply. While initially daunting, deep analysis revealed an industry-wide shift: Google had actively cleaned up its reporting mechanisms to filter our deep-SERP automated scraper noise.
The Results (6 Months Post-Overhaul)

While a small, independent partnership cannot always expect to permanently dethrone massive national agencies for generalised, high-volume terms like "Web Designer Suffolk", the commercial reality is far better: we have shifted from attracting bots to attracting buyers. The traffic hitting our site now consists entirely of high-intent, real human prospects using our site to validate our reputation.
Looking Forward: The 6-Month Roadmap
A modern digital presence is never truly finished. Concurrently with a recent rise in widespread server and script-injection attacks across the wider web hosting landscape, we have structured our next six months into clear security and trust roadmap.
Month 1: Security & Filtering - Months 2-3: Validation Optimisation - Months 4-6: Entity SEO
Phase 2: Technical, Security & Trust Optimisation
Month 1: Perimeter Defence & Analytics Hygiene
- Cloudflare Deployment: In partnership with our hosting providers, we are routing our infrastructure through Cloudflare to mitigate external brute-force and spam traffic before it hits our server layer.
- Data Filter Refinement: Building robust property-level exclusions within Google Analytics to filter out referral and script spam, ensuring 100% data integrity moving forward.
Months 2-3: Optimising the "Validation Journey"
Because our website serves primarily to validate word-of-mouth referrals, the user experience must look bulletproof.
- Case Study Optimisation: Audit and rewrite historical project profiles to follow a strict Problem - Technical/SEO Execution - Measurable Business Result framework.
- Social Proof Architecture: Strategically integrate localised client testimonials across every key conversion and landing page.
Months 4-6: Entity-Based SEO & Human Signals
Google's algorithms increasing rely on establishing real-world "Entities" rather than matching strings of text.
- Google Business Profile Deepening: Consistently optimising our local footprint and sourcing highly descriptive, keyword-rich reviews detailing our code development, design, and search engine optimisation services.
- Author & Creator Signals: Updating our foundational About page to include clear, schema-mapped links to our personal and professional external networks, sending unambiguous signals to search crawlers regarding our verified human expertise.
